The Fliegerhorst ("military airfield") Venlo (codenamed Nassau), was one of the larger military airfields. It was partly in the Netherlands and partly in Germany. It was heavily bombed during World War II, because the German airforce used it as a training area for their new developments, such as the ME 410, ME 163 and the HE 111 special. The controltower still stands and has found a second life as a tower for alpinists.

The mainbuilding and the tower.

They stand separated.

The sign to make it a monument and the knobs for climbing.
