120a, la Pernelle

The Germans installed two batteries in the higher grounds behind the village of la Pernelle. This 120a was an observationpost for the batteries in this area (Wn 144). One battery was placed in 671 casemates and the other one in open emplacements which would be replaced by 679 casemates later in the war. Due to the invasion this never happened but the 170 mm guns of this battery could, although unguided by any firecontrol, fire on Utah beach and inflict some damage.

Beautiful spot, next to the church of la Pernelle.

The view in the direction of St Vaast.

Cupola number with a nice BVG stamp.
