The Russian battleship "Riruk" was stationned at Libau, now Latvia. As the German forces occupied this naval harbor, the ship and her guns were captured. The Russian guns had a caliber of 25.4 cm, but were modified by Krupp to a modern 23.8 cm, in order to use existing German ammunition. After a first assignment on Borkum, the guns were moved to Calais.
