Huisnes sur Mer

At the soutern end of Cotentin, nearby Huisnes sur Mer, just across the brigde at Pontaubault, is a German cemetery. The round mausoleum, build two stories high, has many burial chambers which all can be visited.

We were alone at our visit. The modesty, the silence and the number of graves, has left indelible memories.

Over 2.000 more than the number of US-soldiers at Colleville.

A crypt has three walls with 6 rows of name-plates. Each plate is a grave. 11.877 men, women and children rest here, so not only soldiers.

Here rest in a joint grave, Elfrida, she was only 1 year old. Klaus was even younger. This is only a part of the gravestone.
